Obstacles and Solutions to Effectively Managing Diversity through Minority Rights

Updated: Jan 21, 2021

The aim of the “Share the knowledge” initiative is to create a diverse, inclusive, and participatory knowledge network on human rights. Within this segment, we share valuable and interesting academic papers. Readers have the chance to deepen human rights-related topics and to get some ideas for further studies.

We are glad to share the academic paper of Miranda Lio, a second-year HRG student.

The paper was submitted for the course of Human Rights Political Analysis, on 20th February 2020. In her work, Miranda addresses the following question: What are the biggest obstacles to effectively managing diversity through minority rights at different levels of governance and how could those obstacles be overcome? She raises three principal impediments to diversity management namely, lack of an effective and robust legally binding system, nationalistic sentiments, and the quest for homogenization. After that, she outlines plausible and durable solutions, such as a stronger monitoring system with the power to sanction the persistent non-compliance of states. Besides that, Miranda lingers on active inclusion, meaningful participation, and language rights to foster societal integration of minorities. The following work is the intellectual property of Miranda Lio and any attempt to pass her work off as your own may have academic and legal consequences.
